Professional Development Day Recap
On Friday, February 14, staff across the district participated in a variety of training sessions aimed at enhancing safety and inclusivity:
• Safety Training: Kevin Bird, a consultant from the I Love You Guys Foundation, conducted a session on the Standard Response Protocol, focusing on safety preparedness.
• Paraprofessional Training: Paraprofessionals attended sessions on verbal de-escalation techniques, facilitated by the New Jersey Coalition for Inclusive Education.
• Security Training: Security staff underwent restraint training through Handle With Care, equipping them with essential skills to manage challenging situations effectively.
Exploring History Through Collaboration
The social studies departments at both the middle and high schools continued their deep dive into the events of 9/11 through the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, fostering a greater understanding of this pivotal moment in history.
Upcoming Community Health Fair
A Community Health Fair is scheduled for February 27, 2020, from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM at the Dover Middle School Gymnasium. This event is designed to connect residents with local health vendors, promoting lifelong health and positive lifestyle habits. Organized by Ms. Kathleen Renke, Ms. Kelsey Principe, Mr. Jeff Hoyt, and supported by Mr. Sean Bullock, the fair aims to encourage healthy and active living through community collaboration.
BrightBytes Survey for Digital Growth
The district has launched its first BrightBytes Survey to collect data on the digital environment and technology use from staff, with surveys for parents and students in grades 3–12 set to follow on February 24. Results, available by March 6, will inform the District Educator Advisory Committee (DEAC) as they shape professional learning opportunities for the 2021 school year.
With these updates, Dover School District continues to emphasize safety, community engagement, and professional growth, all while striving to create an inclusive and forward-thinking educational environment. Stay tuned for more developments in the months to come!
