Dover School District Update: Celebrating Progress, Partnerships, and Student Success
The September 15, 2020, Dover School District update highlighted the hard work of staff, parents, and students in navigating the challenges of reopening schools under COVID-19 conditions. From curriculum advancements to professional development and student achievements, the district continues to thrive despite unprecedented circumstances.
Acknowledging the Team Effort
I begin by expressing gratitude to teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators, and parents for their collective effort in adapting to the complexities of the new school year. The district’s success in reopening schools safely and effectively is a testament to the dedication of everyone involved.
Curriculum Advancements
An extensive list of new and revised curriculums was presented for approval, reflecting the district’s commitment to expanding educational opportunities:
• New courses for high school students in English, Math, Science, 21st Century Skills, ELL, and Social Studies were developed over the summer.
• These electives feature engaging subject matter designed to enrich the student experience and support their academic growth.
Commendation for the staff and their hard work and collaboration with Supervisors in creating thorough and well-written curriculums.
Apple Vanguard Training
The district is excited to launch its first Apple Vanguard training sessions on September 21 and 22. Six teachers from Dover High School will:
• Collaborate with Apple Professional Learning Specialists to enhance lesson plans by integrating technology.
• Receive hands-on guidance during their lessons to improve the use of Apple tools and other applications.
• Provide students with direct opportunities to expand their comfort and proficiency with technology.
This initiative underscores the district’s commitment to leveraging technology to enrich classroom instruction and student engagement.
Celebrating Student Achievements
A Dover High School student, was one of 12 finalists in the Young Latina Talks event sponsored by Today’s Inspired Latina. Alongside four other participants from Dover, she delivered a powerful presentation about her life experiences, embodying the spirit of leadership and community pride. Special thanks were extended to Ms. Galindo and Mrs. Swank for their guidance and support. Another Dover High School student participated in the Harvard-sponsored pre-college program, Cracking the Code of the Human Brain. They actively engaged with the complex content, exploring topics like neuroanatomy, brain injuries, and Alzheimer’s disease theories. This exceptional participation earned them a recognition at the program’s conclusion, showcasing Dover’s excellence on a prestigious stage.
Looking Forward
The district’s ongoing efforts to adapt, innovate, and celebrate success are a testament to its resilience and dedication to students’ growth and development. With robust curriculum updates, professional development opportunities, and a focus on student achievement, Dover School District continues to foster a thriving educational environment.
