Dover School District Update: STEM Grants, Course Updates, and Summer Learning Programs

The most recent Dover School District report highlighted exciting developments, including new STEM grants, changes to the curriculum, and plans for an expanded summer learning program. These initiatives reflect the district’s ongoing commitment to providing students with opportunities to thrive academically and beyond.

STEM Grants for Robotics Team

The district is proud to announce the acceptance of new STEM grants for the Dover Robotics Team, funded by:

BEHR

The Department of Defense

Picatinny Arsenal

These grants will provide additional resources for the robotics team as they continue their innovative work with mentors Mr. Jones, Ms. Brooks, and Mr. Hill. The district expressed gratitude to these organizations for their support in fostering STEM education.

E-Rate Funding for Technology Upgrades

The district has approved the latest round of E-rate funding, which includes:

Category I and II Funding: These funds will secure a new internet provider and enhance network security, all at a reduced cost to the district.

This funding will ensure the district remains equipped with reliable and secure technology infrastructure.

Curriculum Updates: Expanding Opportunities in Technology

The district has decided to abolish the Multimedia Design course after identifying redundancy with the Intro to Programming course. This decision allows the district to:

• Offer more sections of robotics, cybersecurity, and intro to programming.

• Provide the guidance department with additional in-demand courses for students.

This marks the beginning of broader plans to develop new pathways and opportunities for students in technology-focused areas.

Expanded Summer Learning Program

To address learning loss from the challenges of the pandemic, the district is launching an expanded five-week Summer Learning Program for students in grades K-12. Key details include:

Focus: Supporting students who did not meet expectations during the school year.

Format: Direct live instruction to help students recover and strengthen their academic skills.

Registration: Parents will receive letters and are encouraged to return registration forms to secure their child’s spot.

This program is funded through ESSER II (Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief) funds, part of federal COVID-19 relief efforts.

Looking Ahead

With new funding for STEM education, expanded course offerings, and summer learning opportunities, the Dover School District is taking proactive steps to support students’ academic success and future readiness. These efforts, combined with ongoing infrastructure and curriculum improvements, position the district as a leader in fostering innovation and achievement.
